Canadian immigration

Over 250,000 people from all countries become Permanent Residents every year. Why do they choose Canada? For the opportunities it offers, the multicultural environment, free healthcare system, accessible education programs, green spaces, citizenship after only 3 years, an accessible immigration system and many other reasons.

Canada, the second immigration destination and the second-largest country, has only about 34 million people. This would be the main factor that led to the creation of one of the best immigration systems in the world.

The Canadian legislation states the objectives of immigration in Article 3 of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act.

Here are some of them:

  • to permit Canada to pursue the maximum social, cultural and economic benefits of immigration
  • to enrich and strengthen the social and cultural fabric of Canadian society
  • to support the development of a strong and prosperous Canadian economy, in which the benefits of immigration are shared across all regions of Canada
  • to promote the successful integration of permanent residents into Canada
  • to promote international justice and security by fostering respect for human rights and by denying access to Canadian territory to persons who are criminals or security risks

During the years, the immigration programs evolved based on the needs of the population. Nowadays there are over 60 programs structured by categories and provinces.
